Dr. John J. Craven was physician at Fortress Monroe at the beginning of his incareration and wrote a book about it in 1866. Until the time of this article’s publication, the book was considered to be a work of fiction by a friend of Craven’s. This article proves otherwise, and is also a biography of Dr. Craven himself.
