OBJECT TYPE: Family File
TITLE: Towles Family File
DESCRIPTION: This is a very extensive file. It mainly concentrates on Henry-2 Towles and his wife Hannah Theriott of Lancaster County. Henry-2 Towles was the son of 1680 emigrant Henry-1 Towles of Accomack County and his first wife, Jane (Incy) Stockley. Thus began a long line of various Stockley (Stokely) Towles, including Henry-2’s brother later of Middlesex County and later still of Culpeper County. This file, however, mainly concentrates on the Lancaster County Towles families. Included is a donation of much material by James H. Gallon of Towles Point. Undated. This includes a genealogical notebook written in a day book dated from 1 JAN 1924 through 4 July 1924.

FAQ: What is a “Family File” in the catalog?
Our Family Files contain various loose paper research materials donated to us by professional and amateur historians and researchers. They sometimes, but do not usually, also contain copies of pages from published books that would be found on our library shelves. Family Files are arranged by surname and may cover multiple lines and counties, mostly in eastern Virginia. They are of varying quality. Some include carefully researched data complete with citations to sources. Others are simply genealogical charts, family group sheets, handwritten notes, or other data which may or may not include references. Printed or scanned copies can be purchased. Contact us for specifics.
