OBJECT TYPE: Article
TITLE: George Percy’s
DESCRIPTION: George Percy was the Governor of Virginia from 1609 to 1612. Written in 1625, “Trewe Relaycon” was apparently written as a defense of term as leader of Jamestown, and particularly as a rebuttal to Capt. .John Smith’s more glowing and self-promoting description of the Virginia experience in “The General History of Virginia,” written in 1624. Considerable detail to this story is in the lengthy preface to the article, which is followed by a transcript from the 1625 manuscript. Mr. Nicholls is a fellow, tutor and librarian of St. John’s College, Cambridge. Virginia Magazine of History and Biography.

FAQ: What is a “Family File” in the catalog?
Our Family Files contain various loose paper research materials donated to us by professional and amateur historians and researchers. They sometimes, but do not usually, also contain copies of pages from published books that would be found on our library shelves. Family Files are arranged by surname and may cover multiple lines and counties, mostly in eastern Virginia. They are of varying quality. Some include carefully researched data complete with citations to sources. Others are simply genealogical charts, family group sheets, handwritten notes, or other data which may or may not include references. Printed or scanned copies can be purchased. Contact us for specifics.
